Every citizen in Europe has the right to healthcare

ECHO – Confederation of Care Home Organisations calls for coordinated efforts by UE member states to promote immigration in long- term care.
“Every citizen of the European Union has the right to adequate healthcare support. EU member states are obligated to finally guarantee care in case of need,” states Averardo Orta, President of the European Confederation of Care Home Organisations (E.C.H.O.), in #Brussels.
In many European countries, there is currently a lack of necessary personnel and secure funding for healthcare services – criticizes Orta, who calls for coordinated efforts by member states.
Across the world, aging societies are seeking healthcare professionals. EU member states must unite and coordinate their efforts to attract as many healthcare workers as possible for long-term care.

Orta refers to the experiences of many countries during the industrial growth phase after World War II. “At that time, industrial workers were recruited directly from their countries of origin and could begin their employment immediately.
This model should be revived with one-stop recruitment centers, where visa issues and language skills can be addressed directly, and rapid professional recognition can be prepared.”
