Event/Debate: the health and social care as an engine of economic development.

In coordination with the Delegation to the EU Confcommercio, on march the 04th of 2013, ECHO organized an event in the European Parliament about "The health and social sector as an engine of economic development and reduction of public debt . "

The initiative , strongly supported by President of Anaste and ECHO, prof. Alberto De Santis , was supported by Licia Ronzulli and Andrea Cozzolino, and saw the participation of the two Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament Gianni Pittella and Roberta Angelilli and many MEPs from different European countries, as well as over a hundred representatives of the sector from the countries of the European Union.

The objective of the meeting was to change the feeling of the European Parliament on the strategic role of the health and social sector, which accounts for approximately 2,500,000 beds in Europe and more than 3,000,000 direct jobs, while the latest available data show that the health and social sectors of health and contribute to creation from 9% to 14% of GDP across the EU .

In Europa si contano attualmente più di 85 milioni di persone ultra 65enni e il settore sociosanitario può rappresentare un motore di sviluppo economico e un mezzo per la riduzione del debito pubblico. È questo il messaggio che sarà trasmesso oggi a Bruxelles dalla Confederazione europea delle organizzazioni nazionali di case di riposo (EUROPEAN CONFEDERATION OF CARE HOME ORGANISATIONS - E.C.H.O.) ALLA PRESENZA DELvicepresidente del Parlamento europeo Roberta Angelilli e di rappresentanti di tutte le istituzioni europee. L’incontro, nella sede del Parlamento Ue, sarà l’occasione per illustrare lo stato dei servizi di assistenza a lungo termine per gli anziani, proponendo soluzioni innovative dato che, per effetto di una popolazione sempre più anziana, quello della non autosufficienza è un problema che riguarda tutta l’Europa. Durante l'incontro sarà presentato uno studio, a cura della fondazione di Economia e salute di Valencia, in collaborazione con centri di economia sanitaria di altri paesi europei, che dimostra che il settore sociosanitario residenziale è un'attività strategica per la lotta alla disoccupazione e il recupero del benessere economico in Europa, avendo una grande capacità di generare investimenti e occupazione e creare importanti risultati economici. Un settore con una forte domanda, per la cui soddisfazione, sottolineano gli esperti, «è necessario un piano di realizzazione e gestione di infrastrutture di assistenza residenziale, che generano occupazione e soddisfano l'attuale domanda di cura».
