NEVEP - The Netherlands

NeVeP, the Dutch Association of Private Care Home owners, protects the interests of its members and their clients. Our members own care provisions throughout the Netherlands. Our clients are people in need of care. In general these are the elderly, but our homes also welcome other persons who need care.

One of the ways in which we promote the interests of our members is by approaching politicians. Furthermore, we provide all possible services for our members: financial or legal advice, assistance in writing a business plan, the development of a promotion strategy, et cetera. For our clients we supervise the quality of the care provided, we help them find a suitable home, we require transparency in the determination of the cost of care and living within the homes, et cetera.

History
In 1970, the NeVeP was founded as the NeVeB (Dutch association of Care Provisions) by owners of private Care Provisions for the elderly, because these homes were deprived of any financial government support. The owners united in order to take a stand in their fight for acknowledgement. From 1997 onwards the association has been called the NeVeP. By the current name we want to state that care is provided, both extra- and intramural.

Philosophy
Our policy stresses the importance of accommodation. We consider it highly important that clients can stay in their preferred environment until this is medically no longer possible. Of course, this must be done in a sensible way and must include all the care needed. The position of the care-seeker is in the centre under all circumstances.

Care
The care provided in our homes is adapted to every client's needs. There is no general approach in our homes! The personal situation of our clients is the keynote. Our homes are small-scale, so that full attention can be given to each of our clients. We also guarantee a maximum of privacy and independence. Basically everyone is totally free to organise his or her own life. There are no fixed visiting hours and clients have their own keys. Of course, some of these arrangements depend on the personal situation of a client.

Quality
The NeVeP strives for a continuous quality check of the homes. A screening commission inspects the functioning of the homes and sees to it that guaranteed quality standards will be maintained. In case of questions or complaints, which cannot be solved by the board of a home, clients can turn to our independent mediator. If then a solution cannot be found, clients can turn to a complaint committee.
