Introduction

The European Confederation of Care Home Organisations (E.C.H.O.), founded in 1989, is an European non-profit organisation representing the interests of establishments in the private area of the welfare of older people and assistance to adults with learning disabilities in Europe. Since European law-making also influences this area of business, E.C.H.O. analyses political activities and influences political decision-making.

E.C.H.O. pursues mainly the following objectives:

  • Fair and reasonable terms between all enterprises in the older people and adults with learning disabilities help sector.
  • High quality standards in Europe at a simultaneous reduction of bureaucracy.
  • Establishments in the area of older people's welfare and adults with learning disabilities help must be recognised as economy factor.

Currently, E.C.H.O. represents 12 member states with nearly one Million bed spaces in the area of the stationary private older people and adults with learning disabilities help, in addition to the ambulant range. The member enterprises take responsibility for more than 680.000 employees and approx. 50.000 apprentices and for almost 40 billion Euro of capital invested.
